Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant - MAT Clinic Services

Job Overview

Under the direct supervision of the clinic physician responsible for the maintenance and support of medically assisted treatment and limited primary care health care services to patients with substance use disorder referred from San Mateo County and other resources to the HealthRIGHT360 San Mateo clinic; responsible for taking medical history, performing physical examination, ordering and interpreting laboratory tests, and diagnosing and treating common illnesses and injuries.  Provides consultation and education to patients; including but not limited to substance use disorder treatment, chronic disease management, pain management, caring for the medical needs of patients presenting with co-occurring disorders within the Patient Centered Medical/Health Home delivery model.


Key Responsibilities

Skills & Medicine Responsibilities:

  • Support and care for patients receiving medication assisted treatment.
  • Analyze and interpret patient history, symptoms, physical findings, and/or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses.
  • Maintain complete and detailed records of patients' history, assessment, and health care plans.
  • Perform routine or annual physical examinations
  • Medical examination will include the interpretation of all routine laboratory tests.
  • Diagnosis and treatment of illness and injury.  Consulting with the clinic physician and/or site manager for treatment referral options
  • Transitional treatment of patients receiving medically assisted treatment for substance use disorder for primary care conditions
  • Arrangements for preventive immunizations and management of patient’s chronic disease.

And, other duties as assigned.

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education and Experience Required:

  • Graduation from a United States accredited program for Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants.
  • Familiarity with medication assisted treatments.
  • 3 years of experience


  • Possession of a current, valid California Registered Nurse License, Furnishing license; DEA/NPI\
  • Possession of a California Nurse Practitioner Certificate; OR
  • Possession of a current, valid California License to practice as a Physician Assistant issued by the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance
  • Current BLS/ACLS certificate or recertification within 2 months of hire


  • Clinical experience with and commitment to working with diverse client populations suffering from substance use disorder and addiction

Knowledge Required:

  • Culturally competent and able to work with a diverse population
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word Outlook and internet applications
  • Experience working successfully with issues of substance abuse, mental health, criminal background, and other potential barriers to economic self sufficiency
  • Bilingual
