Adminstrator/Program Director - Serenity House

Job Overview

The Serenity House program administrator is responsible for leading the day to day operations of a new 10-13 bed mental health respite center located in San Mateo County.  The administrator provides managerial and clinical supervision to a multi-disciplinary staff, manages referrals, and ensures compliance with all licensing, documentation, and clinical requirements.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Administrative duties:  Recruit, employ, train, and evaluate qualified staff; maintain or supervise the maintenance of financial, clinical, and other records; develop staff and clinical schedules; ensure appropriate coverage of the facility at all times; establish facility policies and procedures; act as liaison between the program, Behavioral Health and Recovery Services Division of San Mateo County, and other health providers, and ensure compliance with documentation standards.   
  • Supervisory responsibilities:  Monitor the clinical work of supervisees and provide individual and group supervision for therapists working toward licensure and students obtaining practicum hours.  Maintain supervision agreements and proof of hours; sign off on required paperwork for the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and the schools where practicum students (if any) are enrolled; complete staff and student evaluations.  Assist with crisis intervention, child and child/elder abuse reporting, and other urgent clinical matters.
  • Clinical duties:  Provide mental health services including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, individual therapy, crisis intervention, case management, and group interventions as needed;  provide clinical supervision to staff clinicians at all levels;  conduct staff training on clinical skills and evidence-based interventions; coordinate clinical team meetings; provide support and referrals to family members; and perform QA review of documentation.

Other duties

  •  Attend HealthRIGHT 360 meetings and participates in all internal and external required trainings; attend meetings with funders and other partners; mediate client conflict when it occurs; ensure the completion of required incident reports; order program supplies; schedule building maintenance and repairs; and other duties as assigned.

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education and Experience


  • Minimum of one year of full-time work experience in a management or administrative position and completion with a passing grade of 15 college or continuing education semester or equivalent quarter units, of which 9 units shall be in administration or management or…
  • Three years of full-time work experience in a management or administrative position


  • Minimum of two years of full-time work experience in a community program that serves clients who have a mental illness
  • Experience doing crisis intervention and/or working with seriously mentally ill clients


  • Experience with trauma-informed models

Background Clearance


  • Must not be on active parole or probation 



  • Experience working with co-occurring disorders
  • Culturally competent and able to work with a diverse population
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word Outlook and internet applications


  • Familiarity with harm reduction models
  • Knowledge of DBT, CBT, MI and trauma-based treatment highly desirable
