Bilingual SUD Counselor

Job Overview

Perinatal Outpatient, Serenity TOO, provides treatment services for women seeking recovery from substance use disorders. We offer gender responsive, trauma informed, person-centered services and evidence based interventions. For clients with co-occurring mental illness, we provide integrated substance use and mental health services which treat both conditions as primary. 

Key Responsibilities

Facilitates individual counseling sessions with each caseload client. Provides learning experience opportunities and offers clinical support to assist clients in meeting their treatment goals. Pro-actively links clients to both internal and external resources based on their treatment needs and follows up on the progress/status.

Facilitates group and individual counseling sessions and community meetings and teaches classes on various treatment-related topics. Performs crisis intervention and communicates with treatment team as unforeseen situations arise. Documents client updates and incidents in the facility log daily.  Attends required trainings and meetings. Plans and facilitates client celebrations and special events. May work weekends and holidays as needed.

Collaborates with each caseload client and other available internal and external resources to develop/maintain treatment plans, transition plans, progress notes and appropriate updates in support of the health and recovery needs of the client.

Responsible for management of client medications, including psychotropic medications and controlled substances, including documentation, secure storage, counting and destruction according to policy.  

Acts as liaison with staff; monitors and communicates client compliance with regard to medications.  

 

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish 
  • Able to provide treatment services in Spanish
  • Drug and Alcohol Registration recognized by DHCS
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • First Aid Certified within 30 days of employment
  • CPR Certified within 30 days of employment
  • A valid California driver’s license

Desired:

  • Drug and Alcohol Certification recognized by DHCS
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
     

 Required:

  • Must not be on active parole or probation  

 
 Knowledge  Required:

  • Culturally competent and able to work with a diverse population
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word Outlook and internet applications
  • Experience working successfully with issues of substance abuse, mental health, criminal background, and other potential barriers to economic self-sufficiency
  • Ability to enter data into various electronic systems while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the data
  • Professionalism, punctuality, flexibility, and reliability are imperative
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Integrity to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • Action oriented
  • Strong problem-solving skills
