The STEPS (Services To Enhance Parolee Success) program offers assessment, substance use disorder treatment, case management, informational workshops, educational and vocational assistance, safe housing referrals and other essential services to parolees in San Francisco.

Key Responsibilities

Caseworker Responsibilities: facilitates individual sessions with each caseload client. Provides learning experience opportunities and offers clinical support to assist clients in meeting their treatment/case management  goals. Pro-actively links clients to both internal and external resources based on their treatment/case management needs and follows up on the progress/status. Keep the parole agent of record (AOR) apprised of parolees progress and work in conjunction to develop discharge and aftercare plans.

Assist parolees reintegration into their communities and provide parolees with tools that will lead to self sufficiency.

Performs crisis intervention and communicates with treatment team as unforeseen situations arise. Documents client updates and incidents in the facility log daily. Performs periodic facility walk-through to ensure and maintain the safety and security of the facility. The Caseworker will attend required trainings and meetings. The Caseworker Plans and facilitates client celebrations and special events. May work weekends and holidays as needed. 

Documentation Responsibilities: Collaborates with each caseload client and other available internal and external resources to develop/maintain case management plans , transition plans, progress notes and appropriate updates in support of the health and recovery needs of the client. Properly documents all individual and group counseling/case management  sessions and completes the discharge paperwork/process and required agency assessments in timely manner. Also, maintains accurate records by data entering documentation into various electronic systems for all caseload clients in accordance with guidelines established by HealthRIGHT 360 & CDCR to satisfy internal and external evaluating requirements. 

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education and Experience Required: 

  • The Caseworker shall possess an Associates of Arts or Associates of Sciences degree from a granting institution accredited by the WASC or equivalent, have a minimum of two (2) years of experience working with the criminal justice population; or shall possess a high school diploma, or its equivalent, and a minimum of four (4) years of experience working in a similar position with the criminal justice population
  • At least 3 years experience working in a treatment/outpatient environment with high administrative demands
  • Experience working with criminal justice population
  • First Aid Certified (within 30days of employment)
  • CPR Certified (within 30days of employment)
  • A valid California driver's license

Background Clearance Required: 

  • Must Pass background investigation and criminal records check to obtain clearance 
  • Must be able to satisfy requirements for security clearances
  • Must not be on active parole or probation 

Knowledge Required: 

  • Clear understanding of appropriate staff/client boundaries
  • Culturally competent and able to work with a diverse population
  • Experience working successfully with issues of substance abuse, mental health, criminal background, and other potential barriers to economic self sufficiency
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word Outlook and Internet applications

  • Registration with Drug and Alcohol Certification recognized by DHCS 
  • Knowledge of co-occurring disorders and trauma informed treatment 
  • Knowledge of Clinical documentation (treatment plans, progress notes etc.)
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field
Compensation: $18.82
