Job Overview

Prototypes Women's Center-Oxnard provides detoxification and residential substance abuse treatment to women. Our program is unique in that women can bring their children in.

Supervises and educate clients assigned to the Parenting Center in developmentally appropriate practices with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school age children. Guides clients in the practice and integration of our Parenting Program Education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide culturally enriching and age appropriate developmental activities to the children in the Parenting Center (PC), role models appropriate care while maintaining a calm and encouraging presence.
  • Direct appropriate interactions/conversations between clients assigned to PC.
  • Ensure that clients are following proper safety precautions with children.
  • Teach clients to take responsibility for the PC, ensure proper care, cleaning and organization of the space.
  • Document observations and concerns. Communicate observations and concerns to the team and SUD Counselors with feedback on goals and objectives for parenting portion of the treatment plan.
  • Educate clients on developmental milestones.
  • Educate and support mothers in providing structure and safety for children.
  • Develop and maintain PC schedule for coverage weekly.
  • Develop daily activities and schedule for the children, using culturally enriching and age appropriate activities.
  • Ensure the PC and children’s schedules are followed daily.
  • Documents child injuries or unusal occurrence with incident reports and promptly communicates with the child's caregiver.
  • Cares for and supervisors the children while the parents attend services in residnetial programs.
  • Ensures all children are properly signned in and signned out of child care.

  • Facilitate communication between clients who are assigned to the PC and clients who are dropping children off in the PC.
  • Provide educational assignments as needed that address the need for parenting education within the community.
  • Ensure the Parenting Center is cleaned in accordance with contractual requirements set forth by the County of Ventura ADP.
  • Provide administrative support when necessary, including coverage for front desk depending on staff schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

To perform successfully in this position, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Familiarity with office systems, equipment, and procedures.
  • High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of 9 units in Child Development.
  • Experience working with children and their parents.
  • Organized, good written and verbal communication skills, and creative.
  • Knowledge of working with substance abuse issues, trauma, and domestic violence.
  • High degree of self-awareness and self-regulation.
  • Microsoft Office knowledge and computer skills.
  • Skill in setting priorities and completing work in a timely manner.
  • Dependable automobile and insurance, registration and valid California Drivers License.
  • Knowledge and respect of all confidentiality issues and HIPPA regulations.
  • People oriented.
  • Professional and honest. Other qualifications may be required according to program and/or contractual needs.

Compensation: $18.00
