Kitchen Lead - DMC Residential

Job Overview

This is a union position.

Prototypes Women's center is a 180 bed residential facility for women and women with children. We provide comprehensive substance use disorder, mental health, and psychiatric care by an interdisciplinary team of professionals. Treatment episode ranges in time from 60 days to 6 months. Prototypes is a fast-based environment . Our kitchen works with agency dietitian and prepares three meals daily and snacks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for meal planning and implementation.
  • Completes food orders and menu planning.
  • Oversee preparation and serving of luncheons, breakfast meetings, seminars on-site and off-site, and clients’ off-site meals.
  • Teach and enforce Health Department rules and regulations.
  • Make sure all kitchen crew is scheduled to work, is accounted for, is evaluated individually for ability to work safely in kitchen.
  • Teach clients the preparation and serving of healthful foods, nutrition, hygiene, safe food and equipment handling, clean-up.
  • Prepare the meals and provides kitchen oversight.
  • Work with medical staff and counselors regarding client’s duties and ability to perform kitchen work.
  • Order food, plan menus, and prepare and oversee special events.
  • Supervise kitchen cleaning.
  • Maintain and rotate food and supplies for earthquake closet.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in house decisions as needed.

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of food preparation.
  • Background in the food service industry.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse client and staff population.
  • Must be open to a flexible work schedule that will include some evenings and weekends.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively with people in a constructive manner within a community-based treatment setting.
  • Must be able to pass background/criminal check.
  • Valid California Driver's License, proof of insurance.
