Life Skills Development Manager - Tustin Residential

Job Overview

The Tustin Family Campus program is an 18 month residential treatment program serving 15 mothers with up to 32 children. All residents have open Child and Family Service Cases in the County of Orange. These mothers are working to reunify with their children while at the same time addressing their histories with addiction and mental health. Our treatment team works closely with Orange County Social Services, Orange County Mental Health and Family Court to ensure successful case plan completion and reunification. Clients receive substance abuse counseling and education, counseling and education in parenting and life skills as well as individual and group therapy for both mothers and children. The goal for our clients is that they graduate with custody of their children, affordable housing and a steady income.

The Life Skills Development Manager will provide life skills education, ensure that contract goals with regards to the client savings requirement and GED completion are met, assist clients with housing and employment needs including identifying, applying for and using housing assistance, constructing resumes, monitoring job seeking activity and the pursuit of individual education goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach basic life skills including those associated with budgeting, menu planning, food preparation, basic hygiene, business letters and phone calls.
  • Assist clients to identify public housing assistance programs for which they may be eligible, complete housing and/or rental applications, access waiting lists where applicable, and explore creative means to secure housing such as shared housing arrangements.
  • Assist clients with budgeting and maintaining a savings account with 30% of all income to be used upon exit of the program for housing or other needs.
  • Conduct employment groups to provide clients with skills in resume writing, job applications, interviewing, appropriate work behavior, and employer expectations.
  • Assist clients to identify their vocational interests, aptitudes, and work or life experiences that will assist them in their job search.
  • Assist clients to identify and use employment resources in the community and conduct job searches using the internet, newspapers, networking groups, as well as volunteer and intern opportunities.
  • Develop supportive community relationships with landlords or employers who are willing to rent property or to extend job opportunities to clients in or exiting the program.
  • Timely documentation in clients’ files ensuring agency standards are followed.
  • Participate in team and staff meetings and in-service trainings.
  • Some evening and weekend hours are required.

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • AA required, BA is preferred.
  • One to two years experience in the human service field or in the provision of social services, with vocational, employment, and/or housing experience.
  • Experience working with wormen and children preferred.
  • Well developed computer literacy, good written and oral communication skills.
  • Aptitude for or experience with government regulations, especially as they relate to housing programs.
  • California Driver's Lisence required.

Hours worked in this position count towards SUD Counselor Certification Requirement.
