HealthRIGHT 360 is currently looking to fill a Medical Assistant opening at its Medication-Assisted Treatment Program in San Mateo, CA. The ideal candidate has 2 years of direct patient care experience as a medical assistant working in an ambulatory care setting with populations of varying lifestyles, ages, ethnic and cultural backgrounds and economic status and histories of homelessness, incarceration and addiction.  In this position you will gain experience in providing medication assisted treatment and primary care to people with current substance use disorders. The San Mateo Medication Assisted Treatment Program opened in 2016 and was created to fill the gap for substance use treatment within San Mateo County. We are warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental. Our patients struggle with addiction and come from varying backgrounds including homelessness and previous incarceration.

The clinic staff collaborates with the county and their Integrated Medicated Assisted Treatment team to provide fully integrated medical and behavioral support to patients with substance use disorders. We also work with other HealthRight360 programs and outside agencies in a collaborative cross functional model to help people make meaningful changes in their lives.  We also provide primary care to our patients who have struggled in more mainstream primary care settings- addressing acute, chronic and preventive care needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in scheduling appointments, reminder calls and insurance eligibility check
  • Assist patients in completing any questionnaires deemed necessary by the providers
  • Obtain authorizations and referrals, provide appropriate patient instructions per provider orders
  • Room patients and perform intake, including vital signs, list chief complaints, and histories, as appropriate to patient type
  • Oversee patient flow and ensure smooth, efficient patient flow throughout patient’s clinic experience via patient centered care
  • Coordinate care with IMAT team, case managers, counselors, and clinicians/providers to ensure coordination and comprehensive care.
  • Perform office tests including urine drug screens, urinalysis, urine pregnancy tests  and EKGs
  • Perform phlebotomy, therapeutic injections/vaccinations, TB tests.
  • Clean, prepare and stock examination rooms.
  • Monitor and ensure quality assurance of basic clinic functions, manage inventory and order supplies as needed
  • Assist with related administrative duties as assigned by Medical Director

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education/Experience:

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • 2 years related experience; graduation from a certified Medical Assistant program, preferred
  • Prior medical office experience preferred
  • Experience working successfully with issues of substance abuse, mental health, criminal background, and other potential barriers to economic self-sufficiency
  • Commitment to working with the uninsured and marginalized populations including the homeless, mentally ill, substance users and HIV/AIDS patients 

Skills:

  • Solid understanding of medical concepts, HIPPA and other privacy regulations (i.e., 42 CFR), infection control, and emergency preparedness. 
  • Working knowledge of electronic health records preferred 
  • Written and verbal English literacy and ability to explain medical concepts
  • Additional fluency in Spanish preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and problem-solving abilities 
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and demonstrate good judgment in unusual and emergent situations
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to multi-task and juggle multiple priorities
  • Outstanding ability to follow-through with tasks
  • Culturally competent and able to work with a diverse population
  • Computer literacy 
  • Ability to enter data into various electronic systems while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the data
  • Professionalism, punctuality, flexibility and reliability are imperative
  • Integrity to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively as part of interdisciplinary team and independently assume responsibility
  • Strong initiative and enthusiasm and willingness to pitch in whenever needed
Compensation: $20.00
Type: Hourly/ Non-exempt
