Job Overview

Asian American Recovery Services (AARS) San Francisco outpatient programs consist of Lee Woodward Counseling Center for Women (LWCC) and Project ADAPT. LWCC is a gender responsive program that provides integrated substance use and mental health services for women. Project ADAPT is an adult program that provides culturally competent substance use and mental health services in English and Chinese. Our programs offer a strengths-based, trauma-informed, harm reduction approach and services include individual, group and case management services. 

The Mental Health Intake Assessor/Therapist at AARS is responsible to maintain a “split” schedule where you will work in a collaborative environment to connect clients to the level of treatment they need, as well as managing a small caseload of individual therapy clients and running groups at one of the AARS outpatient programs. The position conducts mental health screenings/Level of Care Assessments for clients seeking placement to HealthRIGHT 360/AARS outpatient programs.

Key Responsibilities

  •  Provide mental health/level of care assessments and diagnoses for adults seeking outpatient services
  • Consults regularly with Program Director to ensure clients meet criteria for safe admission to appropriate level of care
  • Provides crisis intervention and referrals to higher level of care as necessary
  • Manages a small individual therapy caseload
  • Facilitates group therapy at AARS outpatient program
  • Provide thorough written documentation of all services provided in compliance with regulations, contracts, and behavioral health standards
  • Persists in efforts to solve issues even when faced with internal barriers; takes personal responsibility for customer service outcomes
  • And, other duties as assigned.

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Board Registered or Licensed as a LMFT/AMFT, LCSW/ASW, LPCC, APC or Psychologist/Registered Psychologist
• Minimum two years of experience in dual diagnosis substance abuse treatment in an inpatient or outpatient community mental health setting
• Ability to work with a diverse population and open to learning and understanding different perspectives
• Experience conducting mental health assessments and providing appropriate diagnoses
• Experience with Mental Health Medi-Cal procedures
• Demonstrated clinical paperwork, timely record keeping abilities and dual-entry in EHR systems
• Familiarity with Drug Medi-Cal and ASAM Criteria is a Plus
• Knowledge/familiarity of AVATAR is a Plus


Compensation: $65,000.00-$75,000.00
