Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant - COVID-19 I&Q Program

Job Overview

I&Q programs serve as temporary housing for San Francisco residents who cannot otherwise isolate or quarantine due to COVID-19 diagnosis or exposure. The I&Q programs will operate 24-hour/7 days-a-week as a welcoming, compassionate, trauma-informed, culturally attuned, and user-responsive space. Alongside managing COVID-19 care and prevention, the focus is on utilizing the principles of harm reduction to serve people at increased risk of COVID-19 health complications, psychiatric crisis, substance related harms, trauma, homelessness, and death due to overdose.

The programs treat all participants with compassion, dignity, and respect, regardless of their medical, psychiatric, housing, or substance use status and needs. I&Q sites are staffed with a multi-disciplinary team including health workers, nurses, medical providers, safety monitors, custodians, and drivers. Priority will be given to participant monitoring, treatment, and safety, and all staff will be trained in overdose recognition and response. The 24/7 programs include laundry, housekeeping, and meal services. Translation services are used if language-concordant staff are not available. For patients who use drugs and alcohol, medication assisted therapy (MAT) consultation and access to harm reduction services and supplies are made available. 

Responsible for providing medical care to clients in the I+Q Hotel. Clients in the I+Q Hotel are those who are under investigation for COVID-19 (PUI – patient under investigation) or have been diagnosed with COVID-19. Care may include taking medical histories, performing physical examinations, ordering and interpreting laboratory tests, and diagnosing and treating urgent care needs as well as COVID-19.  Provides consultation and education to patients related to COVID-19 within a team-based care model. The PA/NP provides clinical supervision and oversight, including clinical review, and input into the performance appraisal and hiring or firing of clinical support staff. Is an active member of the integrated healthcare team. May be required to work evenings and weekends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide medical care to PUI and COVID-19 positive clients, within the scope of credentialed privileges.
  • Analyze and interpret patients' histories, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information.
  • Maintain complete and detailed records of patients' health care plans and prognosis, documenting care within 24 hours and following charting protocols and applicable CA state licensing requirements.
  • Medical examination and interpretation and disposition of laboratory tests. 
  • Ensure appropriate follow-up for all aspects of ordered care.
  • Diagnosis and treatment of illness and injury.  Consulting with the I+Q physician for treatment referral options as needed.
  • Maintain familiarity with the standardized procedures as agreed to by the supervising physician and utilize them to guide care.
  • Provides clinical supervision and oversight, including clinical review, and input into the performance appraisal and hiring or firing of clinical support staff.
  • Provide on-call after-hours availability on a rotating basis, as requested by supervisor.
  • Provide clinical leadership to support staff, including nursing staff and medical assistants.
  • Maintain availability for various administrative/clinical duties as requested by supervisor.  
  • Complete all mandatory trainings.
  • Comply with all aspects of HealthRIGHT 360 Policies and Procedures applicable to Medical Staff members as well as all agreements with insurers and other entities that contain provisions applicable to or affecting the duties and responsibilities of Medical Staff; and all applicable statutes, regulations, governmental agency guidelines, and non-governmental oversight body requirements that place requirements on HealthRIGHT 360 or Medical Staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor to maintain a high level of patient-centered care.
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends.


Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 Education and Experience Required: 

  •  Graduation from an accredited program for Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants.


  • Possession of a valid California license as an ANP or FNP with Furnishing license OR Possession of a current, valid California License to practice as a Physician Assistant issued by the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance. 
  • Possession of DEA Controlled Substances Registration Certificate.
  • Possession of NPI.
  • Current BLS/ACLS certificate.

Compensation: $120,000.00
