Job Overview

The mission of Lyon-Martin Health Services is to provide high quality, compassionate and trauma-informed medical, gynecological, and mental health care services to trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming, and intersex communities and cis-gender women with specific sensitivity to LGBQ sexual orientation, disability, race, ethnicity, and language, regardless of immigration status or ability to pay.

The Outreach & Harm Reduction Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination of community based outreach and harm reduction programs. With the manager, this position is responsible for coordinating all harm reduction and overdose prevention outreach activities to unhoused and marginally housed people in the local neighborhoods of San Francisco with a focus on queer, transgender, and intersex people of color. This position also works closely with other clinic staff to coordinate drop-in hours.

Key Responsibilities

Outreach & Harm Reduction Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate Outreach Program: Alongside Manager, Outreach RN, and volunteers, distribute harm reduction supplies including but not limited to syringes/needles, food/water, safer sex supplies, first aid supplies, hygiene supplies, harm reduction supplies, Narcan trainings, Fentanyl testing trainings, COVID testing, tents, sleeping bags, etc. through our Street-Based Outreach program, and to our partner organizations at SROs, Shelter in Place Hotels, Shelters, and Navigation Centers, especially in the Mission and the Tenderloin.
  • Connect community members to our clinic services: Primary care, Gender Affirming Care, Suboxone, HIV/Hep C care, Gynecological Care, Mental Health Services, etc.
  • Coordinate Drop In Nights at the Clinic: Distribute the above listed supplies.
  • Coordinate access to supplies and Community Fridge usage in the waiting room when available at the clinic.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies, coordinate orders when needed.
  • Assist clients with laundry access.
  • Participate in regular Outreach team meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Manager to plan various community engagement events and trainings for community members (and staff when appropriate).


  • Table at events to educate community members about our services and to distribute harm reduction supplies to community members.
  • Work closely with community partner organizations to educate them about our services.
  • And, other duties as assigned.

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education and Experience:

  • Commitment to the mission and goals of Lyon-Martin & Women’s Community Clinic.
  • Bachelor’s degree OR minimum 1 year of work experience in community health, social services, harm reduction, or social justice settings.
  • Strong demonstrated experience and knowledge in: conflict resolution and de-escalation; maintaining appropriate boundaries with community members; cultural competency, humility and commitment to health equity and harm reduction.
  • A minimum of one year of experience providing direct clinical services to patients within a healthcare setting.
  • Desire to work in a culturally sensitive and client centered harm reduction healthcare setting.
  • Must be able to work evenings and some weekends.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong commitment to overdose prevention work.
  • Experience working with sex workers, people who use drugs, people experiencing homelessness, people who have challenges with mental health, people of with a history of incarceration, people of varying ages.
  • Experience working with lesbian, bisexual, transgender, gender non-conforming, non-binary, and intersex clients.
  • Experience working with populations with varying lifestyles, disabilities, racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds and economic statuses.
  • A strong commitment to gender affirming health care and health care access for underserved populations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and responsive to change.
  • Ability to work independently as well as on a team, prioritizing workflow to meet critical deadlines and paying close attention to detail work.
  • Commitment to working in an environment offering the full-scope of pregnancy options counseling.
  • Willingness to be an ambassador at events on behalf of Lyon-Martin and Women's Community Clinic.

In compliance with the California Department of Public Health's mandate, by September 30, 2021, all employees must be able to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Medical and religious exemptions are available.

Compensation: $20.00-$20.50
