Then join us and be part of starting a brand new substance use treatment program in Union City!  Asian American Recovery Services, a program of HealthRIGHT 360 seeks to open a treatment program serving Adults and Transitional Aged Youth (TAY) challenged with a substance use. We will do this by providing therapeutic services which utilize evidence-based practices, so that the therapeutic environment and the counseling interventions are appropriate and effective for the needs of the people in the program. Service include both individual and group-based models of care, and we offer culturally tailored community-building activities that motivate the populations we serve to be resilient and healthy. 

 Hours of operation are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00AM to 6:00PM; Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00AM to 8:00PM. 

Asian American Recovery Services (AARS) is looking for a committed, client-centered, full-time SUD Counselor who is passionate about serving Transitional Aged Youth (TAY) and Adult clients in a brand new outpatient substance use disorder treatment program.  Clients will range from low substance use to chronic substance use and needing possible co-occurring capable services.  The SUD Counselor provides substance use individual and group counseling via in-person or telehealth based on individualized assessments. Intensity of services is based on the client's stage of change and response to treatment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitates intakes/orientations, comprehensive assessments, individualized treatment planning, crisis intervention, collateral sessions, case management and individual counseling sessions with clients.  
  • Facilitates group counseling and education sessions. 
  • Conducts community outreach and education workshops. 
  • Performs crisis intervention and works with treatment team to stabilize crisis situations. 
  • Maintains accurate records by entering data and other documentation into various electronic systems for all caseload clients in accordance with guidelines established by HealthRIGHT 360 to satisfy internal and external evaluating requirements.

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Certification in a Drug and Alcohol program recognized by DHCS OR Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or related field with current registration in a Drug and Alcohol Certification program recognized by DHCS 

                         - SUD Counselor I: AOD registered
                        -  SUD Counselor II: AOD certified 

  • First Aid Certified within 60 days of employment 
  • CPR Certified within 60 days of employment
  • Valid California driver’s license 
  • Knowledge and experience with Medi-CAL documentation standards
  • Knowledge of mental health recovery and evidence-based practices
  • Experience with Alameda County Behavioral Health system
  • Experience and ability to work with the criminal justice population
  • Ability to enter data into various electronic systems while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the data
  • Professionalism, punctuality, flexibility and reliability are imperative
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong initiative and enthusiasm and willingness to pitch in whenever needed


Compensation: TBD
