Therapist (Residential) - San Mateo County

Job Overview

This is a union position.

We are a residential substance use treatment program that has been serving San Mateo County for over 40 years.  We are currently looking to hire a full-time residential therapist either currently registered or licensed as an AMFT(LMFT), ACSW (LCSW), APCC (LPCC) to work in our treatment facility that is specifically designed for male identified clients in San Mateo County.  The program is committed to working with underserved communities from a variety of backgrounds and our goal is to build hope and better health, with the intent to change the lives of people in need by providing compassionate integrated care.  We proudly serve lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and gender nonconforming individuals and we strive to meet the needs of any adults struggling with substance use disorders, and dual diagnoses. 

Utilizing a trauma informed, and gender responsive approach our therapists have clinical responsibilities within the facility including but not limited to: Assessments, diagnosing, treatment planning, and establishing medical necessity for each of the clients as they enter treatment.   This role is collaborative in nature and are expectant to work in partnership with other staff members as a treatment team.  We are looking for people who are passionate about helping this population and are attentive to detail. This is a perfect position for anyone looking to gain hours in a fast-paced work environment with the opportunity to learn and practice your therapeutic skillset.  This is an opportunity to serve a population in great need by supporting in attaining their treatment goals and discharge planning.  As a therapist, this person will provide individual and group therapy, collaborate with other providers both internal and external to HR360, and provide crisis management with staff and clients as needed.  The expected weekly productivity rate of this position is 60% which is 24 direct client hours.

Key Responsibilities

Individual Treatment Responsibilities:

  • Initiate the development of treatment plans and assessments and complete all assigned documentation in a timely manner.
  • Provides weekly individual therapy and counseling to clients in the residential treatment facility.
  • Maintains confidentiality while working as part of a treatment team and adhering with program norms.
  • Participates in case conferences and clinical discussions to provide holistic care.
  • Communicates with prescribing psychiatrists regarding psychotropic medication compliance, side effects, and follow up appointments.
  • Coordinate discharge planning in collaboration with the rest of the treatment team.

Treatment Setting Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates evidence-based psycho-education groups on a variety of core curriculum including but not limited to: CBT, Seeking Safety, DBT, MI, & ACT.
  • Provides consultation to staff regarding symptom management, mental health conditions and crisis intervention strategies. 
  • Attends individual and group supervision as well as staff and agency meetings.
  • Participates in agency trainings.
  • Complies with Board requirements for license registration/renewal and maintains credentials in good standing.
  • Participates in the on-call therapist rotation.
  • Provides crisis management, support and follow up as needed.

Documentation Responsibilities:

  • Conducts assessments, develops treatment plans, completes release and consent forms, and other required documentation in various electronic systems.
  • Documents individual and group services delivered in various electronic systems in accordance with guidelines established by HealthRIGHT360 to satisfy internal and external evaluating requirements.
  • Daily maintenance of monitoring of EHR reports, to prevent and clear any compliance errors in records.


Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education and Experience Required:

  • Licensed or Board Registered MFT or AMFT, LCSW or ASW, LPCC or APCC.
  • Minimum two years of experience in dual diagnosis substance abuse treatment in an inpatient or outpatient community mental health setting.
  • High School Diploma/GED.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain background clearance with DOJ and FBI.
  • Culturally responsive and able to work with a diverse population.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Outlook, and internet applications.
  • Experience working successfully with issues of substance abuse, mental health, trauma, criminal background, co-occurring disorders and other potential barriers to economic self-sufficiency.
  • Knowledge of Clinical documentation (treatment plans, progress notes etc.).
  • Ability to enter data into various electronic systems while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the data.
  • Professionalism, punctuality, flexibility and reliability are imperative.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Integrity to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
  • Action oriented, strong problem-solving skills.
  • Outstanding ability to follow-through with tasks.

  • Excellent organization skills and ability to multitask and juggle multiple priorities.


  • Bilingual.
  • Knowledge and experience with DBT, CBT, MI, ACT, assessment tools, and trauma-based treatment highly desirable.
  • Experience working with criminal justice population.
