Therapist/LPHA - Serenity House

Job Overview

HealthRIGHT 360 is currently looking to fill a Therapist/LPHA position at its Serenity House Program in San Mateo, CA. The ideal candidate has experience working with people with histories of severe mental illness and loves working as a part of a team. Serenity House opened in 2018, is a 13-bed facility. It was created to fill the gap for short-term mental health crisis residential treatment for adults within San Mateo County. We are warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental. We serve those who are currently experiencing psychiatric crisis, those whose behavior is causing problems in their daily functioning and relationships. Clients come to us through psychiatric emergency services, law enforcement, family contact, treatment providers, or other community partners. Clients have the ability to participate in a healing community environment, attend evidence-based therapeutic and expressive arts groups, meet with therapists, mental health case managers and a family advocate, and be assessed for medication needs. Treatment plans are individualized in order to meet the direct needs of the individual. The short-term crisis-residential stay is designed to assist clients with stabilizing the current crisis and then returning to the community. Key Responsibilities

Individual Treatment Responsibilities: Provides individual therapy to clients in residential treatment (as needed), and to their families when clinically appropriate. Ensures interventions and techniques are appropriate for each individual client; individualizes treatment to meet the needs of clients while maintaining quality care and promoting health and safety. Maintains confidentiality while working as part of a collaborative treatment team and adhering with program norms. Participates in case conferences, treatment planning and clinical discussions to provide holistic care and quality assessments. Communicates with prescribing psychiatrists and on-site nurse practitioner regarding psychotropic medication management, side effects, and follow up appointments.

Clinical Responsibilities: designs and implements a dynamic, varied, and clinically-minded program of groups and activities; facilitates groups/activities each work day; ALWAYS models a clinical style that reflects program values and beliefs; treats every interaction as a clinically-relevant moment; assesses prospective residents; provides counseling to various individual crisis clients as needed; supports staff in crisis procedures; participates in case conferences, treatment planning and clinical discussions; holds all-house meetings as necessary.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Facilitates weekly treatment and team meetings as needed; assists the program manager and program director in auditing all charts for compliance; assist with staff training; be on-call after hours as scheduled.

Documentation Responsibilities: Maintains accurate records by data entering documentation into various electronic systems for all client interactions in accordance with guidelines established by HealthRIGHT 360 to satisfy internal and external evaluating requirements. Develops treatment plans, completes release and consent forms, etc. In addition, completes Medicare and Medi-Cal documentation and billing as needed.

Other Treatment Setting Responsibilities: Provides consultation to staff regarding symptom management, mental health conditions and crisis intervention strategies.  Attends staff and agency meetings. Participates in agency trainings as required.

Complies with Board requirements for license registration/renewal.

Availability to work at least 1 weekend shift to ensure continued coverage to meet client and programming needs.

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education and Experience Required:

  • Licensed or Board Registered MFT or AMFT, LCSW or ASW, Psy.D. or Ph.D .
  • Minimum two years of working with acute psychiatric issues and dual diagnosis issues in an inpatient or outpatient setting
  • Experience in group dynamics and facilitation
  • First Aid Certified within 30 days of employment
  • CPR Certified within 30 days of employment

Desired (any of the following):

  • Direct experience working with clients in extreme states
  • Direct experience working with high-intensity environments
  • Training in deeper listening skills, such as reflective listening and Motivational Interviewing
  • A variety of expertise in various types of groups (process; movement; drama; art, music, etc.)
  • Demonstrable ability to convey accurate empathy
  • Experience navigating 5150 or emergency/crisis procedures

Background Clearance Required:

  • Must pass a fingerprint background check with the Department of Justice and FBI
  • Must not be on active parole or probation, clear with OIG database

Knowledge Required:

  • Culturally competent and able to work with a diverse population
  • Knowledge of DSM V diagnosis and criteria
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word Outlook and internet applications
  • Experience working successfully with issues of substance abuse, mental health, criminal background, and other potential barriers to self sufficiency

Desired:

  • Knowledge of DBT, CBT, MI and trauma based treatment highly desirable

  • Able to communicate well at all levels of the organization including working with organization leadership and high-level representatives of partner organizations

Desired:

  • Bilingual
  • Knowledge of trauma, co-occurring disorders and trauma-informed treatment
  • Knowledge of Clinical documentation (treatment plans, progress notes etc.)
  • Experience working with criminal justice population
  • Experience working with crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques
