In 1967, during a public health meeting at UCSF, Dr. David Smith declared that health care is a right, not a privilege. Shortly thereafter, he opened the Haight Ashbury Free Clinic.

It was immediately crowded with a wide range of patients from Vietnam Vets to idealistic hippies. It eventually expanded to over 1200 clinics across the country. Fifty years later, what will it take to ensure that healthcare is a right, not a privilege?
